واستطاع 14 من هؤلاء الأطفال، أي نحو ستين بالمائة ممن خضعوا للدارسة، تحمّل هذه الكمية من الفول السوداني رغم أنهم يعانون من حساسية مفرطة ضده بعد سبعة أشهر من بدء الدراسة وأصبحوا يتناولونها الآن يوميا. فيما خرج أربعة أطفال من الدراسة لأسباب شخصية وأربعة آخرون بسبب الأعراض الجانبية فيما كانت استجابة طفل تاسع للعلاج جزئية. وأكدت كاترينا بلومشين، المشاركة في الدراسة، أن نجاح الأطفال المصابين بالحساسية في تناول كمية صغيرة من الفول السوداني يحميهم كثيرا من الصدمة المرضية، إذا تناولوا الفول السوداني سهوا أو عن طريق الخطأ.

يُشار إلى أنه يستعتصي حتى الآن علاج الحساسية ضد الأغذية، مما يفرض على المصابين بهذا النوع من الحساسية تجنب الأغذية التي تصيبهم بالحساسية بشكل كامل. ولكن هذا التجنب صعب جدا بالنسبة للمصابين بالحساسية ضد الفول السوداني لأنه يوجد في الكثير من المواد الغذائية دون أن يكون ذلك موضحا على معلباتها والذي من شأنه أن يؤدي إلى إصابة جسد الشخص بردود فعل قد تفضي للموت في بعض الحالات.
